Background:
Beeston Rylands Junior School is situated near the small town of Beeston. Rylands is a clearly defined urban area consisting of housing built between the 1930 and the early 1970. The current school building, a modern eight-bay clasp design, was built in 1988. Each area has toilets and cloakrooms and other areas include an ICT suit, library, television and music room, and a large hall equipped for physical education. The school has a playing field across the Trent Vale road. The neighbouring Trent Vale Infant School and Rylands Junior are the only schools in the area and work closely together. Sport and extra-curricular activities include football, tennis, cricket, basketball, tag-rugby, art club and choir. At Christmas local senior citizens are visited at home with hampers made up by children and their families. The school also has links with local business employees. Pupils have a major say in the development of the school through class and school council.
