Background:

The Minster School, in a rural cathedral village, is one of the oldest educational establishments in the country. It dates to AD 956. It is a member of the Choir Schools' Association. The school was a small Church of England grammar until 1976 but now has eight-form entry, with a junior department (aged eight to 11) for cathedral choristers and musically-gifted pupils, and a choir school for Southwell Minster. It maintains a link with St John's College, Cambridge, which appoints one of its governors. The school offers the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and has many ensembles and choirs. A major building programme from autumn 1997 has led to improved accommodation for technology, art and design, information technology and English.
