Background:

Wood's Foundation CofE Primary School was founded in 1736. It transferred to its current building in 1969, and a seventh classroom was built in 1998 to cope with the rising number of pupils on roll; over-subscribed, with 1.5 applications per place. There are many grassed areas in the grounds as well as playing fields. The school is located in a commuter village, seven miles north-east of Nottingham, and 60 percent of pupils are from outside the catchment area. It has had recent sporting success in boys' football, girls' football, and mixed cricket. Optional tuition is available in French, tennis and orchestral instruments. One in four pupils takes instrumental lessons. The school has links with the local church and local cricket and tennis clubs. Pupils are encouraged to raise money for charity as well as for the school. DfES achievement award (2001, 2002, 2003).
