Background:

The school was founded in the last century by the Church of England, and serves the villages of Long Bennington, Westborough and Foston. It has 'an exceptionally modern' building which replaced the original in 1985. There is an 'ample' sports and playing field and with new outdoor equipment for juniors and infants. There are also three hard play areas, and quiet areas both on the field and near the hard play area. Inside, the classrooms are 'well designed' and have areas for practical work as well as formal academic work. There is a carpeted school library which has information and communication technology provision, a new personal computer suite, a large sports hall and an outside room which houses an electric kiln. The school commits to a 'broad curriculum' and its extra-curricular activities include football, cricket, cross-country, orchestra, recorder consort, choir, dance and art. The orchestra performs regularly at the Church Schools Festival in Lincoln Cathedral and the choir performs for local community events including at the RAF Cranwell at Christmas. Both have an 'excellent reputation'. There are also 'thriving' sports teams; the football team was their leagues this year (2006), the netball team were runners up in their league this year, and the swimming team won the local school's gala last year and this year. There are 'excellent links' with the local and wider community and links with schools in Kenya and Germany. Charity work has mainly supported the RSPCA, UNICEF and Comic Relief. 'Certain year-groups are over-subscribed.' The school aims to create a school within a Christian context, where all children are challenged and are able to achieve their full potential, whilst promoting a love of learning that will continue to motivate through out life.
