Background:

The Priory is a Roman Catholic voluntary aided primary school, which provides education for pupils aged four to 11 years. It is situated off Raglan Street in Eastwood. Its catchment area embraces Eastwood, Heanor and Smalley, thus serving the parish of Our Lady of Good Counsel. The school has the advantage of two hard play areas, two playing fields and extensive landscaped grounds. The first building was opened in 1963. The succeeding years saw a rapid increase of pupils and necessitated the building of an infant block. The school has six classrooms, purpose-built ICT suite, well-equipped library and assembly/physical education hall. After-school, there are a number of clubs and activities organised by members of the teaching staff, parents and other providers. These include IT/newspaper, drama, environmental, aerobics, recorders, netball and football. In addition the school organises various educational visits ranging from half-day excursions to residential visits. Children are also encouraged to support different charities. The school aims to create a Christian environment reflecting the life of Christ whilst striving to foster links with the home, the parish and the wider community.
