Background:

Situated on the periphery of Mansfield, Leas Park Junior School is a suburban school built in 1967 to serve a number of housing estates and is currently over-subscribed. Built in a 1960s 'clasp' style, the building has eight classrooms, a hall, new networked computer suite, additional teaching resource areas and two outdoor classrooms. 'Extensive' playing fields and 'good' hard play areas are used for games like athletics, swimming, rugby and hockey and the school has a 'strong' sporting tradition. Games provision is enhanced by links with Nottingham Forest Football Club which provides coaching, both in and out of school time. The school provides a 'range' of extra-curricular activities including sports, recorder and cycling proficiency. 'Strengths' of the school are its instrumental music teaching for woodwind, brass and strings and its sports. Parental help is welcomed in a range of activities from swimming supervision to craft lessons and the Friends of Leas Park organise 'many' social and fundraising activities throughout the year. The 'strong' parental support base raises considerable funds for various charities.
