Background:
Founded in 1955 as separate infant and junior schools, Whitegate became a primary school in 1995. The 'very spacious' grounds are surrounded by woodland and enable pupils to take part in orienteering and cross country running. #1 million has recently been spent on external renovations and a new building linking the Key Stage 1 and 2 departments. The school lies at the centre of a large estate on the outskirts of the city and has an 'outstanding' record of community links and charity fundraising. Whitegate Primary organises and hosts an annual sports and dance festival. The special educational needs (SEN) co-ordinator operates withdrawal support groups for literacy and classroom support is provided by three SEN learning assistants.
