Background:
Colston Bassett Primary School's main building was constructed in 1872 for the children of Colston Bassett and Owthorpe, and the original stone buildings are still in use. The buildings contain two classrooms, one of which has a library and cloakroom area. There is also another cloakroom area and a kitchen where meals are served. There is office and storage accommodation in converted outbuildings and, behind the school, there is a small playground, which the children use at breaktimes. The school also uses an adjoining field for outdoor activities, weather permitting, and it has access to the village hall for indoor activities. Pupils can participate in swimming, basketball, country dancing, athletics, football, gymnastics, dance and other sports. The school is affiliated to the Church of England and is over-subscribed, turning down three to five applicants every year. The school believes that positive attitudes to self, to others in school and to the wider community are paramount for the child to achieve their potential, both individually and socially.
