Background:

Bunny School was founded in 1700 and is 'unusual in that the original school buildings still exist in the village'. The school is now accommodated in a 1960's building, set in a small village south of Nottingham and surrounded by 'extensive' grounds. These include play equipment, a wild area and a pond. The pupils annually put together bids for environemtnal grants and carry out the work. The school is regarded as 'one of the central points' of the community and has 'good links' with the local church and other community groups such as the toddler group. The pupils focus on a different charity each term. The school has a 'family' atmosphere, and pupils are encouraged to take part in 'many different activities'. These vary from concerts, plays and entertaining in a local residential home to the Nottinghamshire County Road Safety Quiz (runners-up in both 1998 and 1999). School activities also include a mini-orchestra, chess, table-tennis and football. All Key Stage 2 pupils have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument: these include violin, recorder, guitar, cello, saxophone and clarinet. Key Stage 2 pupils also have the opportunity to go on an annual residential study trip. Work away from the school offers a wide range of sporting activities including coaching by external specialists. In recent months these have included tennis coaching at the Nottingham Tennis Open and a visit from the Trent Bridge Circket players.
